racing classes and groups in motorsport
parallel to skiing, an exciting variety of racing classes is also evident in automotive sports. Motorsportmarkt.de explains that motorsport is not exclusively about the fastest vehicles. Rather, the participants are divided into different classes to ensure equal opportunities. Factors such as the power -to -weight, displacement and the series play a role. An example from the field of touring cars are the different groups of category I, where vehicles such as the BMW E36, which are close to the series, compete against more modified vehicles in various subgroups.
Another interesting category is the GT class, known for highly developed sports cars that start at large events such as the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. To ensure that all vehicles act at a similar level of performance, a Balance of Performance (BOP) is created, which compensates for competitive conditions through weight and technical restrictions. In this way, motorsport for fans and drivers remains alike exciting and varied.
