Heavy parag leader in Tyrol: 21-year-old seriously injured!
Biberwier, Österreich - On June 10, 2025, a serious paraglide accident occurred in Biberwier, in the Reutte district in Tyrol. A 21-year-old German parag leader from North Rhine-Westphalia started his flight in the area of the Sonnenspitze. Shortly after 6 p.m. the pilot suddenly lost height and could not win enough flight altitude.
In the following, the paraglideauer caught in a tree in the adjacent forest. The fall from a height of about five meters led to serious injuries to the left leg. Despite the precarious Situation, the pilot was able to set an emergency call independently. He was immediately flown to the hospital with an emergency vehicle to be treated there, such as 5min.at reported.
Other paragliders in Tirol
The incident is not isolated, because in the past few days there have been several paragliders in Tyrol. A total of four people were injured and taken to the hospital. Details on these incidents and the exact causes of the accident have not yet been known, such as tirol.orf.at. This accumulation of accidents raises questions about security and the conditions for paragliders in the region.
paragliding in the Paznaun region
The Paznaun region, in which the Lake Advance Resort is also located, offers numerous options for paragliders. There are well-equipped starting and landing sites here, which are only about 10 minutes walk from the cable car station in the valley and on the mountain. Paragleiten can be operated in the region from March to October in the form of thermal and route flying, while glider and tandem flights are possible all year round, as listed on See.at. The infrastructure and the experience of the pilots play a crucial role in minimizing the risk of accidents.
The region is ideal for beginners and advanced users, whereby both the wind directions- west, north and east wind- should be taken into account by the Holfuy Station. A popular activity tip is the combination of hiking and paragliding, known as Hike & Fly, which combines the fascination of air sports with the beauty of Tyrolean nature. The recent incidents, however, underline the need to check safety precautions when paragliding and ensure that all pilots have the necessary experience and knowledge to minimize the risks when flying.
