Schrems, Österreich - The city of Schrems takes a crucial step towards ecological recognition and sustainable urban development. In December 2024, a fundamental decision was made in the Schrems municipal council to start the process for the application as the first "Wetland City" in German -speaking countries. This endeavor represents an important initiative to rise to an international league of 74 cities in 27 countries worldwide. The application is scheduled for autumn 2026, followed by an accreditation in 2028. Mayor David Süß emphasizes that activities in the region should increase the chances of maintaining the status.
