New district heating for Zell am See: Sustainable heat supply comes!
The innovation in heat supply in Pinzgau is finally here. Tauernwärme GmbH was founded on November 6, 2024 and promises to supply the Zell am See region with sustainable district heating, which is an important step for the energy transition. The initiative aims to reduce fossil fuels and to implement independent heat supply from renewable sources such as biomass and waste heat.
In a bidding community, consisting of Kelag Energie & Wärme GmbH, Raiffeisenverband Salzburg Egen and Salzburg AG, the surcharge was granted to implement a comprehensive energy concept. Tauernwärme GmbH plans to invest up to 130 million euros in order to decarbonize heat supply throughout the state. From 2028, private households, businesses and tourism companies in the Zell am See region are to be supplied with environmentally friendly warmth.
energy -efficient solutions for the future
As part of this revolutionary project, it is the clearly defined goal of Tauernwärme GmbH to give everyone interested access to renewable heat sources. Sales in the areas of Zell am See and Schüttdorf will begin next year, while the remaining regions will follow by 2028. Biomass heater are planned, supplemented by heat pumps and local environmental heat. This enables sustainable heat supply without CO2 emissions.
district heating is particularly suitable for densely populated areas, but can also be adapted for rural regions. Tauernwärme GmbH offers individual energy consultations to check alternative heat supply systems so that climate -friendly solutions can be established in the entire region.
an important climate protection project for Salzburg
"The project is pioneering for the decarbonization of one of the most famous winter sports resorts of Salzburg and will have a lasting impact on tourism and the entire Tauern region. The establishment of important power plants has ensured stable energy supply since the end of the Second World War," said Adolf Melcher, spokesman for the management of Kelag Energie & Wärme GmbH.
he added: "It is an example of the cooperation between business and environmental awareness. We show that with innovative approaches and cooperation, a sustainable future model can be created for everyone." Siegfried Müllegger from Salzburg AG emphasized the need for the heat transition for a comprehensive energy transition and announced that the company would invest around 32 million euros in the expansion of heat supply this year. "The independence of fossil fuels cannot be promoted quickly enough."
With a clear focus on climate protection and energy autonomy, the tauern heat aims to ensure reliable and modern heat supply without having to invest users themselves in the storage or maintenance of the heating systems. The district heating model not only offers a convenient solution for private households, but also for companies and companies in the region.
