Tragic accident in Saalfelden: Two cows died in a collision
In the early morning of October 3, 2024, shortly before 4 a.m., a tragic incident occurred on the B 164 in Saalfelden in which two cows lost their lives. The accident happened when a 50-year-old truck driver from Bulgaria was traveling from Maria Alm towards Saalfelden.
Despite braking immediately, the driver was unable to avoid the collision in time because several cows were crossing the road. Unfortunately, two of these animals were seriously injured in the impact and succumbed to their injuries. Fortunately, the truck driver and his cargo remained uninjured. An alcohol test carried out also revealed no alcoholic influences.
Accident recording and road situation
The B 164 had to be closed to traffic for the duration of the accident investigation in order to enable a reliable investigation into what happened. It is currently unclear how the cows managed to overcome the pasture area and the pasture fence behind it. This question raises additional challenges when investigating this incident.
Such accidents in which animals end up on the road are very unfortunate for everyone involved and can have fatal consequences for both wildlife and road traffic. Information about similar incidents and the safety of animals while grazing is becoming increasingly important, especially in regions where livestock and agriculture play a central role.
Authorities need to review what measures can be taken to prevent animals from re-entering the roads in order to increase the safety of both animals and road users. For more information you can view the full report on www.fireworld.at read up.
