Stair arm! Vacation traffic and ski World Cup provide chaos on streets
The first February weekend 2025 causes upcoming traffic problems in Austria. The reason for the traffic jams are the change of vacation shift, which is associated with the start of the holiday in several federal states and the end of the holiday in Vienna and adjacent German federal states. In addition, the departures to the Alpine Ski World Cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and three concerts by Andrea Berg contribute to the traffic load. As reported by the ARBÖ traffic experts , the transit routes in the west are particularly affected from the early hours of the morning. The Ostautobahn (A4) and the South Autobahn (A2) will be under pressure on Sunday from the afternoon, especially with traffic jams in front of the border crossings and on the entrances to Vienna.
delays from Ski World Cup and concerts
The Ski World Cup, which begins on Saturday, February 8, with the women's descent, will also ensure increased traffic. Pinzgauer Straße (B311) and the Hochkönigstraße (B164) will be heavily frequented because many fans arrive. As reported, Thomas Haider from Arbö recommends switching to public transport or traveling early to escape the traffic jam. In addition, Andrea Berg's concerts take place in Graz, Salzburg and Vienna, which additionally burden the traffic situation, especially on the motorway descents in the cities mentioned.
Public transport was affected by the U6 in Vienna on Thursday, as an auxiliary vehicle jumped out of the tracks around 2 a.m. Although the route was released again at 8 a.m., there will be delays due to the overcrowding and irregular descents. Wiener lines ensured that the disorders are remedied , but the incidents increase the general nervousness among commuters and travelers who have to expect strong traffic this next weekend.
