New public toilet on the garbage hill: opening for 2025 planned
In the heart of Salzburg there are exciting news for everyone who is looking for a public toilet. A new facility is to be opened below the Müllner Schanze in spring 2025. Kay-Michael Dankl, the mayor deputy from the KPÖ Plus, confirmed these plans.
Initially, a public toilet was considered right next to a playground, but the high costs of around 500,000 euros caused rethinking. Instead, an old cavern is being renovated on the Müllner Hauptstraße, which is around half of the original planning costs with around 230,000 euros. It is advantageous that the cavern was used earlier as a sanitary facility and the necessary connections for water, electricity and channel are available.
technical details and accessibility
The renovation is carried out as part of the ongoing examination by the expert commission for old town protection. The external appearance is particularly important, especially in the door area of the new toilet. After a successful examination, nothing stands in the way of the building permit. Dankl announced that the toilet system could probably be ready for operation in spring 2025.
It is particularly positive that the planned public toilet should be accessible both free of charge and barrier -free. An opening time is planned from March to November from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The magistrate will be responsible for regular cleaning of the toilet.
in parallel to this project, a comprehensive toilet strategy will be worked on by the end of the year. This strategy is intended to uncover where there are no other toilets and develop mobile solutions. Tests are currently underway with seven Ö-Klos, which serve as temporary and channel-independent solutions. The city is investing around 40,000 euros in this test phase, while a permanent location, like the Müllner Hauptstraße, where 200,000 euros would be necessary, cannot be implemented for the time being. according to information from Salzburg.Orf.at decided to pursue this concept in order to improve the situation on site.
