Keep youth in Pinzgau: Opportunities for local companies and apprentices

The emigration of young people from the country to cities has triggered concern in many rural regions. Um diesem Trend entgegenzuwirken, hat die Initiative „kommbleib“ im Pinzgau ins Leben gerufen. The aim of this initiative is to keep future workers in the district by promoting close cooperation with local companies who are actively looking for specialists.

This by the time, companies are required to present themselves attractive to attract new talents. This course is particularly important for industries such as the police, social institutions, dairies and construction companies, all of which compete for the favor of young workers. There are also many reasons in the area to speak for a job right on your own doorstep.

The advantages of spatial proximity

For young people, the opportunity to work near their family and friends is of great importance. Ben Pleschke from Piesendorf emphasizes that the excellent train connections make the way to work easier: "You don't have to get up so early." Daniel Stegenwallner from Piesendorf also appreciates the proximity to his grandmother, to whom he can quickly go to a visit. Anna Keil from Saalfelden is happy that she only has to go to the apprenticeship for five minutes. Such factors are of great advantage for companies because they increase the attractiveness of their location.

The Schwaighofer nursery in Saalfelden is an example of a company that invests in the training of young people. Gardener Master Johannes Struber trains 13 apprentices there and emphasizes that he is proud of her: "A lot is often scolded about the young generation who no longer wants to work. I couldn't say a bad word about none of my 13 apprentices. I am proud of every single one." This shows that with the right speech and positive experiences, young people in rural areas can also be motivated.

The expectations of the young generation

The claims that young people make to employers are becoming increasingly clear. Ben Pleschke notes that it is important not to overwhelm her. Daniel Stegenwallner only wants to work in a company "where the boss is nice". This expectations must be taken seriously by companies in order to win the best talents and keep in the long term. Johanna Neumayr from the “Kommalibeib” network emphasizes that an intensive examination of the wishes and needs of young workers is crucial in order not to fall through the grid in the selection of job seekers.

In a time when rural regions are fighting for their workforce, it is crucial to respond to the needs of the young generation with innovative approaches, such as the "Kommold" initiative and to offer them perspectives in their own homeland. This could not only stop the emigration, but also create a new dynamic in the regional economy.
