Windhager bankruptcy: Sold factory hall in Gmunden for 30 million euros!

The bankruptcy of the Upper Austrian heating manufacturer Windhager has far -reaching consequences: In January 2024, the company registered bankruptcy, the liabilities were estimated at over 86 million euros, which brought around 440 employees into a difficult situation. However, the competition authority approved a renovation process, and the parent company, the BWT company, took over the business areas. Nevertheless, 90 jobs had to be broken down, which made the situation anything but easy for the workforce, as Orf Salzburg reported.

A central element of bankruptcy was the unfinished factory hall in Pinsdorf near Gmunden, which has now been sold. Meir Logistic Center GmbH, a Wels real estate group, acquired the 2.5 hectare area for around 30 million euros. The Salzburg Regional Court has already approved the sale. According to the "Upper Austrian Nations", Meir, the construction work in which 50 million euros have already been invested is planning to complete a further 15 million euros. The value of the property is estimated in better real estate phases at around 50 million euros, but Meir is currently the opportunity to penetrate into market segments that were previously outside their reach, as Alois Meir Senior told the "OÖN". The majority of the purchase price will flow to the Oberbank, which is entered in the land register as a secured creditor, and which partially finances the project, such as Salzburg24 informed.

While the public prosecutor's office has started investigations due to suspicion of fraud and has requested an expert opinion, the exact plans for the property remain open. At a time when the real estate market has challenging conditions, the development of this former Windhager is being observed.
