Enzianhütte, Christlalm and Wimmeralm: wastewater disposal and water supply optimized in Tennengau

Individual sewage treatment plants and fuel storage facilities are history on the Trattberg

The popular excursion destinations Enzianhütte on the Vordertrattberg and Christlalm and Wimmeralm on the Hintertrattberg in Tennengau have struggled with a number of challenges in recent years. The recreational area in St. Koloman, which is popular with locals and visitors alike, is easily accessible thanks to the panoramic road. However, State Councilor Josef Schwaiger emphasizes that wastewater disposal and fresh water supply in particular represent a major challenge. The area is located in a water conservation area and is also the protected area for the drinking water supply of the municipality of St. Koloman.

In recent years, however, solutions have been steadily found that benefit everyone involved, including alpine farmers, the community, tourism and the environment. An important measure was the construction of a sewage pipe from the Enzianhütte on Vordertrattberg to the St. Koloman community facility. A power line and a telecommunications cable were laid at the same time. The project was funded by the state with around 194,000 euros and has been in operation since October 2018.

A solution was also found on the Hintertrattberg to dispose of the fecal wastewater from the Christlalm, Wimmeralm and other alpine huts. Here, a diversion to the sewage treatment plant of the Tennengau Süd cleanliness association was chosen. The outdated diesel generators have therefore become superfluous. A power line was laid from Tauglboden to Hintertrattberg and the sewer channel was used for distribution.

The construction work on Hintertrattberg has now been completed and the wastewater system has been in operation since January 2023. The state of Salzburg supports the facility in addition to federal funding and transfers 40,000 to 50,000 euros annually to pay off the loans for the construction.

In addition to wastewater disposal, the water supply on Hintertrattberg was also reorganized. A water cooperative was founded and around 2,640 meters of water pipe were laid. In addition, two springs were tapped and a 40 cubic meter container with a UV water disinfection system was built.

With these measures, important infrastructure in the region was improved and secured in the long term. The Enzianhütte, Christlalm and Wimmeralm on Trattberg can therefore continue to serve as popular excursion destinations and recreational areas.
