Explode prices: Customers have to dig deeper into their pockets for the Internet and cell phone from April!
From April 2025, many mobile phone and internet users in Austria have to prepare for significant price increases. Signs such as the persistent inflation and the coupling of the tariffs to the consumer price index (VPI) ensure that the monthly costs for almost two thirds of the mobile phone users increase. According to the online platform fan lines there was a reduction of 2.9 percent in the previous year. Overall, the consumer price index has increased by impressive 27.1 percent since 2020.
The adjustments that are anchored in numerous contracts enable network operators to increase prices annually without consumers having a special right of termination. Around 60 percent of mobile phone tariffs and 90 percent of internet tariffs are affected by such index clauses. Maximilian Schirmer, Managing Director of These price increases not only have financial effects, but also long -term consequences for consumers who are disadvantageous due to the outdated tariffs. The index adjustments often disguise the costs that can accumulate over the years. A change of the tariff could not only mean immediate savings, but also an overall better supply.
