ORF salary list: Kratky, Strobl & Co. Collect over 16 million euros!

Österreich - Robert Kratky also remains the best paid employee in the current transparency report of the ORF and achieves an annual salary of almost 473,000 euros. With an increase of 29,000 euros compared to the previous year, the Ö3 moderator remains unchallenged at the top. Pius Strobl follows him in second place with an annual salary of 452,000 euros, which means an increase of 26,000 euros. Roland Weißmann, the ORF general director, took third place with an annual gross salary of 427,000 euros, but his salary has not been raised since the beginning of his term in 2022.

The ORF published its annual transparency report, which lists the salaries of all employees from 170,000 euros gross per year. A total of 74 names are on the list, whose salaries together make up more than 16 million euros. These salaries also include special payments that result from secondary activities. In addition to Kratky and Strobl, other managers are also listed.

The document will be published for the second time this year. It is required by law that the ORF sends all employees who earn more than 170,000 euros annually, as well as their ancillary income to the Chancellery. Of the approximately 4,000 ORF employees, only 1.3 percent of over 170,000 euros earn. ORF boss Roland Weißmann expressed concerns about a possible “envy debate” and warned of attacks on the employees.

In the ranking of the five best paid employees, Peter Schöber, ORF-3 boss, is in fourth place with an annual salary of 301,319 euros. Eva Schindlauer, co-managing director of ORF-III, is the only woman among the top five earners and earns 279,972 euros annually.

The report is published for internal and external control as well as for the first submission to the responsible minister Andreas Babler (SPÖ). After the publication, some top earners, such as Weißmann and Kratky, received threats.

A third of the top earners will retire in the coming years. This development could lead to a change in the salary structure in ORF, especially since the salaries of the directorate and the general directorate have recently been raised, which led to overhaul in the transparency list.
