Austrian judo talent Fara makes WWE dreams come true!
WWE, the world's most famous wrestling league, is getting a new addition from Austria. Austrian judo gold medalist Aaron Fara will join the WWE on May 18, 2025. Fara, who will also take part in the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, has signed a “development contract”. This comes at a time when WWE continues to grow in popularity and promote new talent. According to information from laola1.at He will be admitted to the WWE Performance Center where he will begin his training.
Fara isn't the only newcomer. Along with him, ex-judo gold medalist Shady Elnahas from Canada and South African athlete Francois Prinsloo, who works in athletics, also signed contracts with the WWE. This trio will be trained in the Performance Center before they are finally allowed to take to the WWE stage.
Olympic ambitions
Aaron Fara is also preparing for the 2024 Olympics wrestling competitions, which will take place at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Champ de Mars, Paris. The competitions are scheduled for August 5th to 11th, 2024. A total of 288 wrestlers will compete in 18 weight categories, divided into 12 men's and 6 women's categories. Medals are awarded in both freestyle and Greco-Roman style.
Wrestling will play a significant role at the Olympics, having been part of the program since the first modern Olympics - with the exception of the Paris Games in 1900. This year Mijaín López, who has won five consecutive gold medals in the Greco-Roman class up to 130kg, is expected to return. Japan is considered the favorite for these Games as they could take home the medal for the fourth time overall.
Competition mode and qualification
The format of the competition follows a single-elimination tournament with a repechage for the bronze medals. Each division will consist of 16 wrestlers. To qualify, there are a total of 288 quota places, which are distributed across different competition phases. National Olympic Committees are allowed to qualify one athlete per weight class, but there are no host country quotas in wrestling. The qualification period began in September 2023 at the World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
To assume that qualification will also be overshadowed by controversies such as the Azerbeijan qualification scandal adds further drama. Despite challenging circumstances, medal hopes remain high for athletes like Fara and his colleagues, not least thanks to the support that WWE places on young talent and gives them international perspectives.
