Austria shows solidarity: 1,000 euros for needy Nazi victims!

Österreich - On July 9, 2025, the Austrian federal government decided to provide a one-off grant for needy Nazi victims. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation from the Nazi regime in 1945, the Ministry of Social Affairs will grant a total of 300 people a support of 1,000 euros. This measure is intended to show the victims respect and solidarity and improve their life situation.

The grant is aimed at recognized victims of National Socialism, which relate to a maintenance pension and suffer from the long -term consequences of persecution, disenfranchisement and exclusion. This initiative follows a recommendation of the victim welfare commission, which indicates the special needs of this group of people. Minister of Social Affairs Korinna Schumann (SPÖ) emphasized the moral obligation of the state to help the victims and not to forget them.

Details on financial support

Around 300 people are entitled to pay for the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. The total cost of the measure amounts to around 300,000 euros, which are financed from the compensation stax fund for victim care. The government regards this step as an important contribution to the recognition of the injustice suffered and to improve the living conditions of affected people.

The grant is paid out to both national and abroad, which shows that Austria also thinks of the survivors living in exile who suffer from the consequences of National Socialist persecution.

The context of the Nazi persecution

In addition to these financial support actions, the work of the Arolsen Archives also plays an important role. This organization, which was founded in 1948, is the world's largest archive to sacrifice and survivors of National Socialism and specializes in the documentation of the Nazi crimes. Arolsen Archives supports survivors in enforcing their right to compensation and clarifies the fate of those affected.

With the latest digital projects and educational offers, the organization actively campaigns for a contemporary culture of remembrance. It not only offers certainty for relatives, but also promotes respect, diversity and democracy among new generations. Arolsen Archives is considered the "showcase of democracy" and makes a significant contribution to the European Peace Ordinance.

Overall, the measure of the Austrian federal government is a sign of recognition and solidarity with the victims of National Socialism, while organizations such as Arolsen Archives continue to work tirelessly to keep the memory of the past alive and to sensitize future generations.
