New life in the Gallneukirchen hometown: discover interactive local history

GALLNEUKIRCHEN. In the heart of the city, the Gallneukirchen Heimathaus invites anyone interested to discover the history of the place in an innovative way. The historic center has undergone notable improvements in recent years, designed to provide visitors with an interactive experience.

The most significant innovation is the redesign of the meeting room in the former municipal office. There is now a picturesque merchant's shop here that reflects the complex trading history of Gallneukirchen. Equally impressive is the historic Stöckl, a room that once served as a sleeping place for craftsmen. Today this room is designed as a showroom that traces Gallneukirchen around 1820. The highlight is an artistic representation of the horse-drawn railway, which visualizes the development of public transport.

Special exhibits and digital offers

One of the special attractions is a lenticular image by the photo artist Günter Mitasch. It combines views of Gallneukirchen from 1820 and 2020 and allows visitors to understand the changes in the city over the decades. In addition, the historic tower clock from 1774 was restored and the tower room was renovated, which underlines the historical value of the home.

To make the visit even more informative, the Heimathaus offers audio guides that explain various subject areas in more detail. A school class is also dedicated to documenting local school history. In addition, life-size figures enrich the exhibitions and bring historical events to life.

Another highlight is an illustration of the Regiotram project by Christoph Raffetseder. This particular depiction refers to a newspaper article from 1915 and shows the relevance of historical events to the present.

For anyone who wants to delve deeper into the history of Gallneukirchen, the Gallneukirchen Topothek is a valuable resource. This digital platform, which has been managed by Hannes Berger since 2020, offers images, films and documents on the city's history and has already recorded over a million hits. Those interested can visit the topotheque at www.heimatverein-gallneukirchen.at/topothek view.
