New organic farm in Vorderweißenbach: Celebrate learning at the farm

Urfahr-Umgeben/Vorderweissenbach. The "School at the farm" is a well-known concept to establish the connection between city and country for children. This initiative has existed in Upper Austria for 25 years, and it now comprises 132 companies, including seven in the Urfahr area. New in the circle of participating courtyards is the company of the Postl family from Vorderweißenbach, which wants to promote agriculture with diverse offers.

The organic farm is conducted by Sabine and Harald Postl, who tackle the challenge of the company with a lot of commitment. Uncle Heinrich's farm was originally led, who is still actively involved in the company today. Her children, Johannes and Theresa, already support the handling of animals and machines in a playful way in family business and learn. Sabine Postl describes her farm as a place full of life where oxen, chickens and rabbits are at home, and where organic oxen meat is marketed regionally once a year.

The concept of "School at the farm"

The idea of introducing children to the world of agriculture begins from spring. Sabine Postl is motivated to make young visitors understand how important agriculture is for our daily life. "The inquiries about SAB can be made from spring," she explains. The programs are tailored to the respective season and offer the children the opportunity to experience what it means to work on a farm.

A highlight for the children is the Ochse Oskar, which leads through the everyday life of the farm as a playful guide. There, the little participants learn how the feed for the animals is created and what role machines play. The half -day visits to the company offer about three hours to learn and be amazed at nature and the production method of food.

"Agriculture means diversity and challenges for me," continued Postl. It emphasizes that each farm has its own peculiarities that need to be discovered. Women often contribute a large part to the variety of work, be it in stable work, marketing or leading new projects. "We always have to be aware of why agriculture is so important - it provides us with food," she emphasizes.

The project is run professionally by the Upper Austria Chamber of Agriculture. Bettina Father, the project manager, notes: "Every company who takes part in" School at the farm "fulfills strict quality criteria and is trained." In this way, the value of these special learning experiences for future consumers is underlined.

The basic questions treated in the programs are easy to understand and close to everyday life: How does a fresh egg feel? Or why is the soil so important for agriculture? These and many other topics are made interactively.

In the URFAHR-UMGEBUNG, the following seven companies have the opportunity to introduce the children to the world of agriculture:

  • Andrea Rechberger, Reichenau
  • Gerlinde Hofbauer, Gramastetten
  • Martha Penkner, Engerwitzdorf
