In the Linz priest seminar, there was a special honor at which diocesan bishop Manfred Scheuer gave the Florian and Severin medal. 14 people, including the 65-year-old Josef Riedl from Waldneukirchen, were awarded the Severin medal, which stands for outstanding voluntary work. For Regina Atzwanger, the spokeswoman for the Diocese of Linz's Diocese Council, such commitment is particularly valuable at a time when the requirements for the church are steadily increasing.

Josef Riedl looks back on more than 40 years of active service in the parish of Waldneukirchen. His skills in organized work and his manual talent have already been recognized by Pastor Kammerer, who gave him essential tasks in several construction projects. Particularly noteworthy are the conversion of the rectory as well as the drainage of the masonry and the exterior renovation of the parish church.

tireless commitment

"If someone was needed, Sepp Riedl was always there," praised Pastor Alois Hofmann. With skill, specialist knowledge and a positive attitude, Riedl has supported many events that served to finance projects in the parish - including flea markets, parish balls and festivals. His reliable partner, Helene Riedl, always stood by his side in these activities and together they lovingly take care of their four children and six grandchildren.

Now both also enjoy their free time with hobbies such as travel and cycling, which helps them to recharge their batteries for Riedl's extensive tasks in the parish home and the more than 700 -year -old church. Pastor Hofmann emphasizes that Riedl knows about the challenges and peculiarities of the historical buildings.

The Severin Medal, which was designed by the Linz artist Ulrike Neumaier, symbolizes the spirit of the volunteer and bears the Latin saying: "And if nobody does it, I do it". This award stands for the selfless dedication of the volunteers who are committed to the communities, which is why their merits are honored in a special way.
