Zwettl shines orange: 16 days against violence to women
In the municipality of Zwettl, the old town hall shines in a striking orange tone. This game game is part of the international campaign "16 days against violence against women", which is again supported by the city this year. The campaign should not only draw attention to an extremely serious topic, but also send a strong signal: violence against women is unacceptable!
The campaign extends from November 25th, the International Memorial Day for Victims of Violence, until December 10, the day of human rights. During these two weeks, numerous actions are carried out worldwide to draw attention to the various forms of violence against women. It is emphasized that this violence represents a fundamental violation of human rights that has both individual and social consequences.

To support the campaign, the old town hall is highlighted in Zwettl for 16 days with orange lighting. During this time, the lettering "Orange the World" is also shown in order to show solidarity with the women concerned. In addition, the importance of this initiative illustrates orange flags at the city office and on the main square.
A look at the alarming statistics shows that in Austria every fourth woman from the age of 15 was already exposed to physical or sexual violence. In 2023, over 15,000 bans and rapprochement bans were issued. The global numbers are also worrying: 85,000 women and girls were deliberately killed last year, which corresponds to a female every ten minutes. So far, the women's shelters have recorded 27 female crews this year.

With these words, City Councilor LAbg. Mag. Silvia Moser, MSC, opened the lighting of the old town hall. In Zwettl there are support options such as the Waldviertel women's counseling and a violence protection center that offers concrete help. Information about these contact points is crucial to facilitate access to necessary resources.
