Connect generations: Ulrichsberg plants hedges for new garden
The long-cherished vision of a garden in the Ulrichsberg district old and nursing home takes shape with an exciting hedge planting campaign by the middle school students. In the next two years, a so -called generation garden will be created, which should serve the exchange between young and old. The campaign was initiated by a dedicated team of school teachers and the social welfare association, which strengthens the community and brings the students a sustainable project.
"Dear students, you gave the impetus for a very sustainable project today. Mayor Wilfried Kellermann agreed and emphasized that this day was like a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the community. It was also addressed that the idea originally arose from the healthy community under the direction of chairman and community doctor Andreas Gabriel.
a garden for all generations
The name of the project already indicates that it should be accessible to the entire population. Andreas Gabriel explains: "The generation garden is designed as a meeting point for young and old." With a size of 1800 square meters, this garden is to become a place of encounter that is open not only for the residents of the nursing home, but also for residents and visitors. The plan provides for a variety of vegetable additions, including crops and shadow -giving trees.
The other planned facilities include seating such as benches and pavilions, a barrier -free network of trails and play equipment for children. A barbecue area should offer additional options for social gatherings. These diverse offers should both promote social interaction and strengthen the connection to nature.
sustainable environmental education
The middle school students, especially classes 3a and 3b, are largely involved in the plants of the hedge bushes and trees. This serves not only to delimit the property, but also to protect against the west wind and the creation of valuable habitats for animals. Together with the gardener Maria Gabriel -Obberngruber and specialist teachers of the Bohemian Forest School, the plant and locations were selected, taking into account future climatic changes.
An important aspect of the project is the practical environmental education of the students. They were already prepared for the project in class and were given the opportunity to design posters over their planted species. This experience should sensitize the students to ecological issues and promote understanding of climate change.
In order to ensure financial support for the project, the founded association "Generationsgarten Baph Ulrichsberg" plans various activities for the procurement of funds. This includes membership fees, donations and revenues from events. Gabriel emphasizes that with an annual fee of 20 euros, every citizen can support the initiative. The project has the potential to strengthen the community and combine generations, which is of particular importance in the current period.
