Safe roads in Ried: defective vehicle lighting repaired free of charge

In Ried, an important security action was recently started, which focuses on the vehicle lighting. In the dark season, when the days get shorter and many people are on the move in the evening, functioning lighting is particularly crucial for drivers. Together, the police and the Austrian automotive, motorcycle and touring club (ÖAMTC) ensured that defective lights were replaced free of charge.

As part of this initiative, which was carried out at 18 different locations in Austria, the officers have stopped vehicles that were traveling with poor lighting. Fortunately, the drivers were spared fines. Instead, they were given the opportunity to continue their journey safely after the lamps were replaced. In Ried, a total of ten defective lamps were replaced by ÖAMTC technicians.

The meaning of visibility

Robert Schmidsberger, the head of the ÖAMTC base in Ried, pointed out how important functioning vehicle lighting is not only for the driver's view, but also for the correct detection of the vehicle by other road users. "If only a taillight or headlight is defective, this can lead to dangerous situations on the street," he said. Functional indicators are also essential to send significant signals when turning.

raising awareness of security

The police were pleased with the successful course of the campaign. Thomas Hasenleitner, the deputy district police commander, emphasized the importance of promoting awareness of vehicle lighting in the dark season. "Visibility is crucial to avoid accidents, especially in poor visibility due to fog or dusk," he said. "Even if we were able to prevent a single dangerous scenario, the light action was a complete success for us." This shows how important the exchange of defective light sources is for the safety of all road users.
