In the district of Perg, there was recently a special occasion that delighted the local community. A ceremonial certificate for the new Selba trainers took place in the Linz Diocesan House. A total of 17 people, including three women from the district, successfully completed their training in the Puchberg Schloss Bildungshaus. This initiative is aimed at promoting health and educational offers for senior citizens.

"Today is a day of joy, pride and the new possibilities," said Maria Otruba, the head of Selba Upper Austria, in her opening speech. She emphasized that graduates not only improved their own skills, but will also make a valuable contribution to the community. The ceremony, to which friends, relatives and experts were invited, offered a festive framework to appreciate the commitment of all graduates. The event was musically framed by the guitarist and self-coach Karl Leitner, supported by his partner Heidi on the flute.

political support and recognition

Political support was not long in coming: Astrid Zehetmair, member of the state parliament, came by to thank the graduates for their commitment. She emphasized: "We can never replace empathy and sympathy with technologies. Your commitment to Selba is an important contribution to society and our social system." Zehetmair encouraged the new coaches to pass on their joy and commitment in the new role - something that benefits not only the community, but also their own well -being.

In total, 255 Selba trainers in the Catholic Education Center OÖ are already active in 2023. Christian Pichler, head of the work, emphasized the importance of the nationwide presence of Selba in Upper Austria and the openness of the program for all senior citizens, regardless of their education, nationality or religious views. "Selba offers everyone the opportunity to actively take care of their mental and physical fitness," continued Pichler.

"We see our offer as a bridge between health care and education for seniors", Maria Otruba spoke about the Selba program. The training offers the target group the opportunity to experience community in a pleasant and humorous environment and to promote their own fitness.

This initiative is not only a step towards personal growth for the graduates, but also a promising addition to the offers for seniors in the Perg.
