How the priority in Windhaag changes the face of the community

A remarkable success has been given to the priority in Windhaag at Perg, a once dilapidated monastery from the 17th century, which now illuminates as a modern community center after extensive renovation work of around 2.5 million euros. At yesterday's awarding of the Awards Upper Region 2024 in Linz, the project was included in the series of the most outstanding examples of the revitalization of empty buildings.

The State Council for Economic Affairs and Spatial Planning, Markus Achleitner, emphasized the importance of such projects and explained that existing fallow land should be considered before new building land is being shown. "The list of successfully implemented examples is getting longer and longer," added Achleitner, while he raised the progress and the multitude of submissions. In addition to the priority, the Capuchin Church and the Capuchin monastery in Linz and the small town biotope in Vöcklabruck were also awarded.

The new community center priority

The renovated priority not only serves as the seat of the local government, but is also home to commercial tenants and premises for local clubs. This new life center promotes the community and brings a breath of fresh air into the local events. The intensive cooperation between the municipality, the state of Upper Austria and the public was crucial for the success of this project. Finally, Achleitner noticed that the reuse of vacancies is an important initiative in the "Austrian soil strategy", which was only recently decided.

of the Award Upper region was launched to highlight examples like this and to promote their relevance for other communities. Werner Pamminger, Managing Director of the Business Upper Austria location agency, emphasized the role model function of the excellent projects. "We are actively committed to the reuse of fallow wasters and the visibility of empty buildings," says Pamminger.

A call to creativity in community development also assumes Markus Brandstetter, Managing Director of Regional Management OÖ GmbH. He is convinced that every excellent solution offers inspiration for further innovative approaches to promote life in communities. The support of initiatives for revitalization is essential for sustainable development and resource conservation in the region. This important prize is supported by well-known partners such as Hypo Upper Austria and the Peneder Bau-elements GmbH.

This price not only reflects the success story of the priory, but also the possibility that other vacant buildings can be brought to a new purpose. The commitment to sustainable development and creative revitalization remains crucial for the development of the region.
