Young women break barriers: HTL mentoring program in Grieskirchen

In Upper Austria, 51 young women recently successfully completed the mentoring program for HTL students, including four graduates from the HTL Grieskirchen. As part of a solemn act, they received their certificates who appreciate their commitment and progress. This program, which was launched in 2015, aims to reduce the gender light in technical professions and to pave the way into technology.

The mentoring program has now produced over 350 participants. It should help the girls to reduce inhibitions and offer them a perspective on an exciting and future -proof professional field. The importance of such a program is also underlined by Christine Haberlander, the governor's deputy and women's officer. She emphasizes that both the pupils and the economy in Upper Austria benefit from motivated and qualified young people.

The importance of female talents in the technology

Gertrude Schatzdorfer-Wölfel, managing director of Schatzdorfer device construction in Zipf, spoke about the basic role during the celebration that women play in technical professions. She emphasized the urgency of keeping girls in technology and called various measures that can be taken to enable this. With the increasing number of female talents, the diversity is also promoted in technical teams, which can lead to more innovative solutions.

The program participants had the opportunity to take part in several technical workshops at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz organized by Marianne Littringer. These workshops enabled young technicians to explore various areas of natural sciences and technology and to get an insight into the possibilities of a technical degree. Such practical experience is crucial in order to convey not only specialist knowledge, but also self -confidence in an area that is often dominated by men.
