Fascination Science: Lecture evening in the Linz Castle Museum

On November 26th, an exciting evening about current developments in science will take place in the Linz Castle Museum. From 6.30 p.m., experts from OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH will present interesting topics from botany and paleontology.

The first impulse presentation, held by Christian Bräuchler, is particularly remarkable. He will discuss the problem of racist names in botany. At a recent international botanical congress in Madrid, it was decided that from 2026 only names for plants and fungi will be awarded that are ethically harmless. The change aims to eliminate discriminatory terms from botani culture.

research on bees and wasps

Another highlight of the evening will be a lecture by Martin Schwarz. In his report, he will tell about bee and wasp research in Namibia. On his research trips, he discovered previously unknown wasp species with his son. This part of Africa has so far remained largely unexplored, which underlines the importance of these discoveries.

A special enrichment for the collections of the state of Upper Austria brings the newly acquired fossil collection of the paleontologist Herbert Schaffer. Julia Wöger and Kerstin Zucali will present the fossils to a look at, including the remains of long extinct animals such as crocodiles and tooth whales as well as the giant elephant of the genus Deinotherium.

This event will give visitors valuable insights into the latest scientific knowledge and help to raise awareness of the significant role of natural research. For further information about these topics, the report on www.meinbezirk.at read.
