On October 13, 2024, the Austrian Federal Forests, together with the Kalkalpen National Park, invite you to the “Wine & Game” gourmet hike from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This event not only promises a wonderful hike to the picturesque Weingartalm, but also the opportunity to taste exclusive wines and regional game delicacies.
For all curious people and nature lovers, there will be an interesting hiking route that leads to the idyllic hunting lodge. Here, visitors can not only enjoy the beautiful landscape, but also enjoy a sustainable tasting.
The culinary highlights
This year, participants can look forward to exquisite red and white wines from the Schenzel winery in the Carnuntum region. This traditional family business pursues sustainable farming and uses untreated grapes. The wines are not only a delight for the palate, but also reflect the character of the region and the soil.
The wildlife management of the Kalkalpen National Park Authority is not only an important aspect of nature conservation, but also meets all the legal requirements of a protected area. Here, traditional knowledge, craftsmanship and modern scientific knowledge of wildlife ecology come together to produce sustainable and valuable food. The hike is easy and suitable for families. It begins at the Haslersgatter car park in Windischgarsten and leads along a forest road past the Steyrsteg bivouac site. After about 30 minutes you reach the junction to the Weingartalmhütte. The total hiking distance is 4.6 km, which takes about 1.5 hours. You overcome an altitude of 170 meters and, if you wish, you can continue the hike over the Großer Größenberg (1,691 m).
The event takes place in all weather conditions, so that participants can prepare for an experience in nature.
