Restrict and orange bank: signs of violence against women in Northwest Mecklenburg

In Northwest Mecklenburg, a strong sign is set on the occasion of the international commemoration day "No to violence against women". On November 25, 2024, a flag will be raised at 10 a.m. in front of the malt factory in Grevesmühlen to draw attention to the problem of violence against women and girls. District Administrator Tino Schomann will carry out this event together with the equal opportunities officer of the district, Claudia Wendorf.

The following day, November 26, a sign is also set on the Baltic Sea resort of Poel. The mayor Gabriele Richter, supported by the volunteer equal opportunities officer Dunja Eggert and Claudia Wendorf, will be the flag against violence in front of the community center in Kirchdorf Hisen at 9:00 a.m. You also have an orange bank with the lettering "No to violence against women!" set up. This bank will symbolically stand for the commitment to violence on the entire island and in the district.

a sign of solidarity

The initiatives aim to raise awareness among the population for the continuing gender -specific and structural experiences of violence. It is important not only to know the theory, but also to actively act against violence that affects many women and girls. With the establishment of the orange bank, citizens should be encouraged to pause and think about the topic.

The population is invited to take part in the events and to see the Orange Bank as a symbol of solidarity. The events also offer a space for reflection and should help to no longer be tolerated against women in society. The joint action in Grevesmühlen and on the island of Poel shows that it is not just a single situation, but that a change can be worked together.

In addition, the orange bank is also awarded to various institutions, clubs and associations in Northwest Mecklenburg. In this way, the topic remains present beyond the day of the memorial and is continuously moved into the awareness of people. The commitment to the rights of women and against violence should not only be made visible once a year, but all year round.

The concern to proceed against violence and to raise awareness is of central importance. It remains to be seen how such actions will affect the attitude of people on this important topic and whether they can lead to changes in society in the long term.
