Texts of the silence: graduation event Klosterwerker in Gmunden
In the picturesque Gmunden, the former Carmelitic monastery is again visiting the field on Friday, October 11th when the writer Cornelia Hülmbauer presents her texts created during her stay. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., literary fans and interested parties are invited to take part in the final event of the “Klosterwerberin” project, which will take place in the monastery facility itself.
This project is particularly important because it deals with the history and transformation of a place that was characterized by spirituality for a long time. The Carmelite, who left the monastery in March 2023, closed their doors and moved to their parent sisters' parent sisters from Carmel to Bad Mühlacken. Now the Institute of Austrian Order has taken responsibility for the property and it began a comprehensive transformation process that converts the monastery from a place of contemplation into a space of public encounter.
a room for encounter
Especially the monastery garden has developed into a lively meeting point in recent months. During this conversion, the “Klosterwerber” project supports the dialogue between art, spirituality and the community. Karin Mayer, the head of culture and documentation of the Austrian Order Conference, now describes the monastery garden as "place of encounter and exchange between spirituality, art and society".
The event on October 11 is "will have been". It addresses both yesterday and that of the former monastery and shows their simultaneous existence. The Carmelitators will also make their contribution by sharing stories and texts with those present.
The event is part of the European Capital of Culture in 2024 in the Salzkammergut, which underlines the importance of the event and represents a cultural highlight in the region. The combination of literary readings and the historical context of the place promises to become a unique experience for all visitors.
