Pure excitement: Sharks Gmunden lose dramatically against WEV Vienna

In an exciting ice hockey match in the Gmunden ice rink, the Cam4dent Sharks Gmunden and WEV Vienna faced each other. The mood was tense from the start, and the game began with a brilliant offensive of the Gmundner. After only 26 seconds, the Sharks carried their first enthusiasm into the gate of the guests. Mathias Haiböck converted a precise pass from Moritz Neurauter and Marc-André Dorion to 1-0. The Viennese had to take notice of tickling their opponent, their motto seemed to be.

The game quickly picked up speed, and in the 17th minute Niklas Mayrhauser and Ian Motil were involved when Dorion scored 2-0 with another goal. With this comfortable lead we went into the first third. But then the sheet turned for the Sharks. A few minutes after the beginning of the second third, exactly in the 21st minute, WEV player Daniel Aschauer took an opportunity and shortened to 2-1. The Gmundner then made several punishments in the following minutes that turned out to be fatal.

a drama in the ice rink

In the 29th minute of play, Juri Schorna managed to equalize 2-2 in the Power Play, and shortly afterwards the change followed. "A few tactical adjustments were necessary," said Sharks trainer Gregor Baumgartner, who apparently felt the pulse of the game. Jan Billa gave the Viennese in the lead with his goal to 2: 3, and that was the propulsion of Viennese. Despite all efforts, the rhythm of the Gmundner was confused, and in the second third they could not bring any further points to the scoreboard.

In the last third, Baumgartner took the initiative and decided to change the lines. Suddenly the Sharks drove one attack after the other and put the WEV defense under pressure. It was a gripping exchange of blows, but the guests resisted themselves. It was only shortly before the end of the game, in the 55th minute, the Sharks achieved the 3: 3 with a nice interaction between Adrian Rosenberger and Laurens. The arena shook with enthusiasm.

The subsequent overtime was hard to surpass. Both goalkeepers showed an admirable performance and impressed the shots of the attackers. Finally, there was a decisive penalty shootout, which made the game a final high -voltage act. The WEV player Denis Simek finally grabbed the "golden racket" and completed the victory of his team. The match ended with 4: 3 for Vienna, and the Sharks could only cope with the painful loss with a lot of inner strength.

"We saw today that discipline in ice hockey is essential," explained coach Baumgartner after the game. "The guests used our weaknesses ice cold, especially the three goals in the second third. That was decisive for their victory." Despite the defeat, Gmunden stays at the top of the Öel East table and will now focus on the upcoming away games against Maribor, Kapfenberg and again Vienna. "The next home game will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. against HDK Maribor," added Baumgartner.
