Information evening in Freistadt: Concerns about the Czech nuclear waste repository
FREECITY.Next week, on Thursday, November 28th, members of the Anti-Nuclear Committee will invite you to an important information evening entitled “In Front of Our Door”. The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Salzhof and is dedicated to the planned nuclear waste repository that is to be built near the Czech Republic.
This information evening will also welcome experts from the Czech Republic. The organizers emphasize the urgency of the issue: "The search for a final repository is in full swing, and the Czech government is planning a massive expansion of nuclear energy. Since radioactivity knows no borders, this inevitably also affects our region." Edvard Sequens is expected to speak again, together with guests such as Pavel Vlcek and Gabi Reitingerová from the citizens' initiative OIŽP from Budweis. Gabi Reitingerová will also act as a translator. Admission to this event is free, which is intended to allow for wider public participation.
Successful past events
Several information evenings on this critical topic have already taken place in the past. The first event on the search for a final repository took place in Haslach in September, followed by a successful discussion in Bad Leonfelden in October. At these meetings, Dalibor Stráský, anti-nuclear representative for the state of Upper Austria, as well as representatives of Czech NGOs such as Jihoceské matky and Calla, among others, provided information about the Czech population's views on nuclear power and the ongoing efforts to find a final storage facility.
The event in Rainbach was also well attended and generated a lot of interest. Here, among others, the internationally recognized climate researcher Helga Kromp-Kolb and Wolfgang Löser, an energy-neutral farmer, spoke about the challenges and opportunities in the context of energy production and climate change.
The next information evening will once again focus on the upcoming challenges associated with the nuclear complex and the disposal of nuclear waste in an informative exchange. Reporting on these and similar topics is continually updated, as reported on www.tips.at.
