Vintage Advent wreath 2024: Tips from Gold medalist Sandra Berger
Advent is just around the corner, and for many, this means preparing atmospheric decoration for your own four walls. This year the Advent wreath presents itself in an enchanting vintage look, which is not only visually appealing, but also durable. Florist Sandra Berger, who won the gold medal at the World Cup in 2023, knows exactly what materials are in demand this year. "I prefer branches of the nobilist fir, which, thanks to their greyish-bluish color, fit perfectly with eucalyptus leaves and dry flowers," she explains.
The Niederwaldkirchner is part of the team of flower craft Elke Mitter in Eferding. Your expertise is unmistakable when it comes to combining the different elements harmoniously. It is important that the wreath looks sufficiently bushy and has a spacious hole in the middle to optimally accommodate the candles. "Ideal are a strain about tying - you can attach the candles to that," says the experienced florist.

In addition to the nobilist firs already mentioned, Sandra also uses pampas grass, dried hydrangeas and lagurus grass to design the wreath individually. These dry flowers and grasses are immediately integrated into the blank, which gives the entire arrangement a charming vintage charm. The choice of candles also plays a crucial role. This year there are particularly high candles in subtle colors such as salmon, old pink, mint and cream. These white designs make the wreath not only during the Advent season, but also into a real eye -catcher until the winter.
"After the holidays, the candles can be easily removed, and you already have an appealing winter wreath," says Berger. The Nobilistanne is ideal for decorative purposes because it has been durable for a long time and does not need it. If you want to lend a hand yourself, you need a little patience. You should plan for around 20 minutes for the tying of the wreath, followed by at least 25 minutes for the decorative.
For those who want to save themselves this tedious work, there is a large selection of wreaths that have already been bound in the flower shops on site. The florists are happy to advise and help with the selection of the perfect combination. A worthwhile visit is also on the agenda during the Advent season: "Advent in the vaulted cellar" takes place from November 20 to 24 in the Elke flower craft. The opening times are Wednesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to admire the created works of art or to bind a wreath themselves.
