Icy hiking trails: woman falls on the Almsee and is saved!
Almsee, Österreich - On January 2, 2025, there was a dramatic incident on Lake Almsee, where a 56-year-old from the Eferding district fell while hiking on a very icy path. The previous rain and the subsequent frost had made the hiking route so slippery that the woman slipped on the section near the rescue point E and a serious injury in the thigh and hip area. The injured woman was then no longer able to get up, as orf oö reported.
The Grünau mountain rescue was immediately commanded and moved out with 17 emergency services, including an alpine police officer to save the woman. Part of the team went to the scene of the accident on foot with a mountain line, while another team prepared an operational quad. In order to cope with the difficult path conditions, special chains were installed so that the quad could be safely maneuvered. The patient received a heating jacket for stabilization on site. As informed Salzi , she was betting in a vacuum mattress and carefully transported to the Seehaus, where it was then handed over to the Red Cross Scharnstein. This exciting rescue operation once again shows the challenges that Wintry Conditions can bring for hikers.
The mountain rescue had to be in use for the second time this year, which shows the risk of the icy conditions that hikers presented with enormous difficulties. The initiative for the search and rescue of injuries is particularly important to ensure the safety of those who want to enjoy nature.
