SPÖ presents comprehensive list of candidates for municipal council election 2025

In Wiener Neustadt, the SPÖ completed the list of candidates for the municipal council election on January 26, 2025 with 80 candidates. City party chairman Rainer Spenger emphasizes that preferred votes will play an important role for the first time. A special focus is on a 40 percent quota for women as well as the inclusion of different age groups and people with a migration background in order to map the broadest possible cityscape. Spenger explains: "We want to cover the entire cityscape that so many citizens of our city feel."

An important goal of the SPÖ is to increase the turnout and to regain a leading role in local politics. Spenger is aware that around 10,000 people in Wiener Neustadt did not go to the urns in the last election of the National Council, which he sees as a clear order. After two decades, the SPÖ would like to bring about a turn, win more voices and change politics for the benefit of the citizens.

important topics in the election program

The election program of the SPÖ was created in close cooperation with the population of Wiener Neustadt. Under the motto "We want it to know", the party asked the citizens for their opinions and ideas, which resulted in an extensive topic catalog. One of the central questions that many residents concerns is health. The long waiting times in medical practices and the hospitals are addressed here. Spenger calls for more investments in the infrastructure and better trained staff.

Another hotly discussed topic is security, especially in connection with the train station. Spenger criticizes that there are too few officials on the streets and speaks for more police officers to strengthen the subjective feeling of security of the citizens. "More than 33,000 people move at the train station every day. It's about subjective security and prevention," he explains.

social topics and living space

A central concern of the SPÖ is also the social security of the citizens. Spenger reports that he keeps hitting people who, despite full -time jobs, can no longer pay their rents and heating costs. Historically, social democratic politics in Wiener Neustadt has a long tradition in the living space question, which extends until the first municipal residential building in Austria is founded. In order to protect the well -being of the tenants, the privatization of local apartments is to be counteracted. With currently around 2,000 municipal apartments, 300 of which are empty, the SPÖ is planning to renovate all stocks and the new building of other apartments, but without sealing new green areas. "If we create new living space, then we should condense where it has already been built," said Spenger.

The election campaign will be intensified with poster campaigns and analog as well as online election campaigns from mid-December. Spenger emphasizes that his approach should be a more positive: "I will neither have attacks nor dirty campaigns. I am very willing to compromise, and that has to be done in a democracy." He appeals to other parties to also lead a fair election campaign.

In addition, Spenger is open to discussions with other parties of the choice: "I work with people and rate people afterwards. For me, after a choice, all contacts are possible," he explains and underlines his willingness to cooperate.
