Art for everyone: Inclusion by Mellowyellow in Wiener Neustadt
An innovative inclusive art project called "Mellowyellow" has developed remarkably in the past few weeks in Lower Austria, especially in Wiener Neustadt. After the successful start in Vienna, the project, thanks to the support of the school quality manager Sonja Schärf-Tangl, is now also showing positive effects in the region. It is actively implemented in seven elementary schools and a middle school in Wiener Neustadt as well as in two other elementary schools in the district.
The special thing about "Mellowyellow" is the mixed-of-plated team, which consists of artists with and without disabilities. These artists come directly to the schools and convey important topics of inclusion to the children in an artistic and eventful way. In the campaign days that are part of the project, the students experience a varied program that includes both creative and interactive elements.
mediation of inclusion by art
According to the Vienna Mayor of Neustadt Klaus Schneeberger, this project sustainably promotes awareness of people with impairment. "Inclusion is an important topic and cannot be passed on to children early enough," he noted. The children should recognize artists as role models and learn through the common creative work that inclusion also has its place in art.
In the current school year, over 570 students in 25 classes were enthusiastic. A typical day of action includes a performance -like introduction, followed by active workshops, discussions and a lunch together. Initial fears or prejudices of the children are quickly replaced by a positive learning atmosphere, so that they bravely get involved in the joint activities.
Another positive effect of the project is to improve communication. In cooperation with artists who have experiences from different realities of life, the students learn to meet at eye level. In this way, the inclusive thought becomes tangible and tangible in a whole new way. At this point it should be mentioned that "Mellowyellow" is carried out without additional costs for schools and is dependent on funding from the state and federal government.
The implementation of the project and the positive feedback from the schools hope that inclusion will continue to take a permanent place in everyday school life and in the cultural life of the region. More information about the background and the implementation of the project are in one article by www.meinbezirk.at to read.
Overall, the project "Mellowyellow" shows how art and community awareness of diversity and inclusion can be promoted in schools - a step that is of great importance in today's society.
