Together against violence: Wiener Neustadt strengthens women's rights
From November 25th to December 10th, 2024, the international campaign against violence on women and girls takes place again. Every year, the right to live non-violent is pointed out during this period, and the city of Wiener Neustadt also makes its contribution to awareness work. The "16 days against violence" offer an important platform to give this burning topic visibility.
Women's City Councilor Erika Buchinger emphasizes the urgency of this initiative: "A non -violent life is a fundamental human right that should apply to everyone. Nevertheless, many women and girls do not experience this freedom. The current economic situation, paired with social fears and stress, often increases domestic tensions, which can lead to an increase in violence."

As part of the initiative, an information event will be held in the city center on November 29 and 30, at which Buchinger informs about offers of help together with the social service and the police and distributed flares of women and girls. These alarms should convey an additional feeling of security and offer possible help in dangerous situations.
The city also implements traditional actions, such as the hoist of the flag "freely live without violence" in front of the old town hall. This symbolic gesture is intended to draw the population aware of the problem of violence against women. In addition, the “Mitanand in Wiener Neustadt against violence” project is continued on the city homepage all year round and offers information on contact points and support offers.
Another sign of solidarity is set by the worldwide "Orange the World" campaign. Here symbolic buildings, including the water tower, the column of Mary and the old town hall in Wiener Neustadt orange, are also highlighted, which also contributes to sensitization for this topic.
Even if the activities of Wiener Neustadt play an important role during the campaign, the discussion about violence against women and girls remains a permanent social challenge. The city administration and its partners therefore continue to focus on clarification and prevention to find long -term solutions for this problem.
This call for mindfulness and support comes at the right time, because violence against women is not only an individual, but also a social problem that affects the entire community. The coming "16 days against violence" invite all citizens to work on this important topic and to set a sign against violence through participation and support.
