Ghosts, passages and new adventures: Halloween in the Grillenberg show mine
Exciting news is coming to the Grillenberg show mine that has great significance for the coming months. Until the end of October, visitors can explore the former mine, which mined ore from 1791 to 1901. Anyone interested can discover the mysterious underworld on a guided tour that is a total of 3.5 kilometers long.
Bernhard Umreich, the chairman of the “Grillenberg Schaubergwerk” association, looks back happily on the past years, in which the mine became an insider tip among tourists. “There are many unexpected discoveries here, such as fire salamander larvae, impressive stalactites and even bats,” he explains.
Spooky Halloween tours
But before the winter season begins, the show mine team is organizing two special tours on October 26th and 27th. Under the motto “Haunted in the Mountain”, the underground environment is transformed into a spooky adventure world full of ghosts and witches. In addition to scary food, participants can expect exciting horror stories. The entrance fee is ten euros. Umreich hopes to exceed the number of visitors from last year, when 400 guests came.
The tours are also aimed at children aged four and over. Excursions can be arranged by telephone from May to October: on weekdays on 0 2666 52423-12 and on weekends on 0676/402 7078. For the safety of the little guests, helmets are provided, while boots can also be borrowed.
From 2025 there will also be a new guide route. Thanks to the Neunkirch-based company “AREA Surveying”, the necessary survey work for a new emergency exit was successfully completed. Managing director Philip Zeisler proudly reports on the use of the latest 3D laser scanning technology, which also serves to fully document the entire area. “There were no records in this form before,” emphasizes Umreich.
Umreich would like to thank the sponsors, including Baumit, Heizbär and Sandwerk Feichtinger, for their support. These improvements are intended to help make the mine an even greater experience for visitors. From the new 3D representation to informative display boards in the entrance area - the mine's attractiveness has been significantly increased.
