Voluntary fire departments in Wiener Neustadt: Successful exercise in the protective suit
Last Friday, November 22, 2024, the Wiener Neustadt district came to an important step in the training of its fire brigades. The second module of the "Practical Practical Practical" course took place on the premises of the Industrial Park Schwechat company park, in which five participants from the volunteer fire brigades Bad Erlach and Wiener Neustadt took part, as well as a female participant. This training is part of the extensive training programs of the Lower Austrian Fire Brigade and Security Center, in which the emergency services are prepared for an emergency.
The day began with a theoretical introduction in which the participants discussed the basic concepts of the protective suit and the necessary safety precautions. This knowledge was then seamlessly transferred to the practical application. The focus was on checking the protective suits and the equipment, and the firefighters also learned how to prepare the various components such as windows and zippers in accordance with the manufacturer.
The practical part of the training
According to the theoretical foundations, a challenging habituation and stress exercise followed. This serves to give the participants a feeling for the physical requirements in use. After an intensive morning unit, everyone involved was able to recharge your batteries during a lunch break before continuing. The subsequent theoretical block in particular dealt with the protective suits of level 4, which are both gas -tight and heat -protecting. In addition, the topic of external air supply was addressed, which is essential for comprehensive training.
In the last section of the training, the participants stepped on the practice route, where they could demonstrate their skills. They were confronted with a simulated exit of pollutants and had to save an injured and contaminated worker. The entire process was carried out with special focus on emergency decontamination and security. The emergency services also had the task of bringing two containers to safety via an industrial director and sealing a leak. An important element was the correct undressing of the protective suits to avoid contamination.
As part of the exercise, a pollutant damage protocol was also filled out, which summarizes the most important information about the process. After using the equipment and ensuring your operational readiness, a feedback round took place. Overall, the participants were directed by an experienced team of instructors, which include district clerk Peter Lenauer and experienced members of the volunteer fire brigade. Moritz Lisson, Florian Kandelsdorfer, Manuel Eckenfellner, Marco Kogelbauer and Christian Grundtner supported the participants in their further training.
The day ended with thanks to BSB Lenauer and his team to the committed participants, who, through this important training, expanded the contingent of protection level 3 sponsor in the Wiener Neustadt district. This is a significant step to strengthen the fire service readiness and to ensure a quick and effective reaction to future emergencies. For the firefighters, continuous training is of crucial importance in order to meet the high demands in danger defense.
