Advent in Wiener Neustadt: Festive lights and traditional markets
The Advent atmosphere has completely taken over the city of Wiener Neustadt. A real eye-catcher is the newly erected 16 meter high Christmas tree, which was donated by the market town of Lanzenkirchen. It stands proudly opposite the Old Town Hall and was ceremoniously illuminated last weekend. This not only brings the tree itself into the foreground, but also the large-scale Christmas lighting in the pedestrian zones, making the entire city center shine in festive splendor.
Mayor Klaus Schneeberger expressed his delight about the tree: "This year our Christmas tree comes from Lanzenkirchen and once again underlines our motto 'City & Country with Anand'. I wish the visitors to our city a lot of joy with the tree and numerous other Christmas lights in the pedestrian zones and beyond." The musical accompaniment to the event was provided by the Lanzenkirchen music association and the Lanzenkirchen elementary schools as well as Rudolf Scheicher, which contributed to the festivity of the event.
Advent markets and traditions
Several Advent markets are planned as part of the festive period, which are intended to further increase the anticipation of Christmas. These markets take place on different days and offer visitors a colorful program:
- 29. November bis 1. Dezember: „Weihnachten im Stadtpark“
- 6. Dezember bis 8. Dezember: „Advent in der Beethovenallee“
- 13. Dezember bis 15. Dezember: „Advent am Dom“ mit der Volkskultur NÖ
- 20. Dezember bis 22. Dezember: „Advent im Bürgermeistergarten“
A special highlight this year will be the Krampus Run, which will take place on November 29th on the main square and in the city center. Under the direction of the Krampus group Leitha Bartl'n from Buckligen Welt, this event has developed into a unique show that puts tradition and craftsmanship in the foreground. The participants impressively present the customs that are observed during this time of year.
In the coming weeks, the city of Wien Neustadt will celebrate the Advent season not only with the shining Christmas tree, but also with numerous events and lively traditions.
