Magical projects: Waidhofen schools shape the future sustainable

In the Waidhofen on the Thaya district, an exciting project started to inspire young people for sustainability. Under the inspiring motto "Magically sustainable: circular economy, workshop magic and green jobs", five schools have the opportunity to actively take part in an extensive project year. The focus is not only on theoretical aspects, but also practical experiences that are made possible by the students.

A total of 180 pupils from the BRG/BG and the HAK Waidhofen, the HTL Karlstein, as well as the NMS Dobersberg and Groß Siegharts are part of the project. The project is supported by the climate & energy model region Future area Thayaland, which already defined the goals together with the participants last spring. Project coordinators like Christine Papst and the manager Christina Hirsch are now looking forward to the implementation of the planned activities.

practical experience and workshop participation

The school groups already took part in the Waldviertel job fair in September, which was a positive experience for everyone involved. In the coming months, both workshops and excursions will be planned as part of the lesson. These offers should not only give the pupils insight into different companies, but also encourage them to think critically and actively search for solutions. Learning by acting is very important here!

In addition to learning theory, the focus is also on practical implementation: the NMS Dobersberg and Groß Siegharts as well as the HAK Waidhofen raised beds will be built. The HTL Karlstein is planning the construction of a small wind turbine, and the BG Waidhofen will produce creative works of art from old jeans and wood. In addition, all schools take care of mobility reports that are included in suggestions for improvement for the way to school. The results of this work will be presented to the public at a joint final event at the end of the school year in Waidhofen.

The aim of this project is to raise awareness of the young generation for important topics such as climate change, climate protection, the need for sustainable mobility as well as circular economy and a shortage of skilled workers. In addition to the increase in knowledge, the students are also given the opportunity to actively participate in the design of their future and to develop their own voice in these central questions.

The respective commitment of the students and teachers shows how common efforts can lead to a better understanding of our environment and the potential challenges. Through projects like this, the youth gives the youth a platform on which it can actively participate in changes that are important for the future.

A well -known example from the surrounding area would also be the folk dance group, which proudly looks back on its numerous appearances and prices won. The State Prize for Climate Change Adaptation, which was awarded in Thayaland, also shows that there is a lot of commitment and interest in environmentally friendly initiatives.
