Four suspects arrested in Austria after 102 thefts

In a remarkable investigation, the police made four suspects who are held responsible for a number of 102 crimes in Lower and Upper Austria. To the most part, these are the theft of bicycles and motorcycles, which resulted in total damage of almost 407,000 euros.

The focus of the investigation was on a gang of thieves, which mainly struck into underground garages and basement compartments. The case accepted a growing complexity when the police received evidence that a vehicle with Czech approval in Vitis at Waidhofen on the Thaya had suspicious activities. On March 20, an attentive witness watched a vehicle with a trailer on which two stolen motorcycles from the St. Pölten district were transported.

illegal transports and arrests

The investigators found that the machines had been stolen the night before, specifically in Traismauer. The trailer also came from theft in Krems. However, this was only the beginning. On March 25, the officials came across another vehicle team with a trailer on the expressway S10 near Freistadt. The trailer, which had been stolen in Aigen-Schlägl, had invited a motorcycle and two mountain bikes to be stolen in Linz. A 37-year-old driver and his partner were arrested during the inspection.

By evaluating cell phone data and other knowledge, numerous thefts could be assigned to the arrested. Two accomplices aged 32 and 35 who had entered Austria could also be localized. On May 7, the two were arrested in Rainbach in the Mühlkreis. The 35-year-old was arrested without resistance, while the 32-year-old put several other road users in danger to flee before he was finally caught in a forest at Leopoldschlag.

of the total of 102 crimes are assigned to 58 e-bike and bicycle thefts as well as 27 cases of motorcycle and moped thefts to the accused. The thieves gang had also stolen seven sets of complete car wheels and five car trailers. The police put the total damage at around 406,634 euros. In the Czech Republic, six motorcycles and two car trailers have already been secured and their rightful owners returned.

The investigation shows the gang criminal and the challenges that the police are facing in order to cope with such offenses. While two of the suspects made confession, two assume their innocence. The clarification of this multitude of crimes is of central importance for the affected communities and the police to restore the security and protection of property.
