Tractor recovery in Waidhofen: Fire brigade saves vehicle from overthrow
on November 16, 2024, at 07:05 a.m., there was a remarkable incident in Waidhofen an der Thaya, which called on the plan. A tractor of the JCB Fastrac model was on the federal road B5 towards Horn when the driver suddenly heard strange noises from the engine area. A short time later, the engine completely stopped, which caused essential functions such as steering and braking strength reinforcement. Despite all efforts, the driver was difficult to control the vehicle and got off the road with the tractor.
The situation was dangerous when the tractor came to a standstill on an adjacent embankment. A farmer who had observed the incident reacted immediately and secured the Fastrac with his own vehicle to prevent overturning. The alarmed firefighters quickly arrived at the scene of the accident to assess the situation. The head of the operations immediately had the hill winch of the tank fire truck in position, while wheel wedges were pushed under the tires of the tractor to ensure stability.
technical difficulties and recovery measures
Already on the road had an oil track formed due to an engine problem that the fire brigade could notice. The route service of the Waidhofen/Thaya road maintenance service was then informed in order to remedy the risk of varifting. A complete blocking of the federal road was required to recover the tractor. The police took over the traffic regulation and set up a local diversion to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Another problem was the too low air pressure in the brake lines of the tractor. In order to enable the rescue, the fire brigade filled this pressure using an aid vehicle. After the pressure was successful, the salvage could begin. The steering support of the vehicle was affected throughout the process, which made the task difficult because the tractor could only be moved with minimal corrections of the lane.
The return of the tractor to the road was finally carried out using two winches. The deep charging trailer, which was stationed by the fire brigade of Heinreich, was also brought to the scene in order to be able to safely remove the tractor. Finally, the device was pulled onto the trailer with the winch and then removed from the federal road.
After the use on site was successfully completed, the fire brigade removed the leaked motor oil from the road with appropriate oil binder. At around 10 a.m., the emergency services were finally able to return to the fire station and successfully explain the operation.
