Green mobility in the Tulln district: E-cars and carpools in trend

In the Tulln district, there is a clear commitment to environmentally friendly mobility. Mayor Franz Aigner from Kirchberg am Wagram emphasizes: "We want to walk on foot, cycle, electromobility and promote public transport." The municipality has already launched several initiatives to promote sustainable means of transport that not only optimize the flow of traffic, but also contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.

An e-scooter rental system stands out among the projects, which has already been tested by the citizens. The next step in this project is currently evaluated. In addition, a trial ticket is available to the residents with which they can use the public transport of the Metropolitan Region Vienna/Lower Austria/Burgenland free of charge.

variety of mobility offers

The city administration initiated numerous projects to address different age groups. This includes an public information day that is specifically aimed at that of over 50-year-olds, as well as a cycling day that gets families and children in motion. In addition, Kirchberg has installed an electric charging station on the market square and offers two Park & Drive systems for commuters, which promotes the use of electric vehicles. There is also an electric car in the fleet of the municipality.

Another interesting example of innovative mobility solutions is the project "Mia - Mobility in Absdorf", which is led by Mayor Franz Dam. This association organizes cheap journeys for the citizens within the community, whereby the drivers work on a voluntary basis. The VW bus can transport up to eight people, which is particularly advantageous for older people or people without their own vehicle.

The loading infrastructure for electric vehicles in the region is also continuously expanded. The tullnen energy currently operates 20 public electricity filling stations with a total of 62 charging points. Four other stations are already being planned. Mayor Peter Eisenschenk emphasizes: "The formation of consciousness for new forms of mobility and habits is one of the central concerns of the municipality of Tulln in the area of mobility." This also includes the pilot project Lisa.tulln, which serves to better use the first and last mile.

With over 50 stops in the region, this project is very popular with users. In 2023, impressive numbers were achieved:

  • 21.005 trips with the Lisa.Huttle
  • 26,573 people were promoted
  • Most bookings were made to train stations, including Tulln and Tullnerfeld.
It is particularly noteworthy that the Tullnerfeld train station alone recorded 10,030 trips, while the Tulln train station had 6,373 trips. These figures illustrate the high demand for flexible mobility solutions in the region and reflect the growing awareness of environmentally friendly traffic options.
