Municipalities are fighting against the consequences of the flood disaster in Lower Austria

A few weeks ago, many people in the region were presented with unexpected challenges when the flood disaster caused massive damage in numerous communities in Lower Austria. The places in Tullnerfeld are particularly affected. In Atzenbrugg, one of the strongest affected communities, the consequences of the flood are still noticeable. Mayor Beate Jilch announced that the heaters of many households cannot be put back into operation due to the still high groundwater level. For many residents, this means that they are faced with an uncertain time until they can return to their apartments.

The municipality started a large pump campaign to improve the situation, but the challenge remains. "It all hit us very hard and that is very close to me, I know the most affected," said Jilch, who speaks with great sympathy about the situation of its citizens.

active damage processing

The community's damage commission continues its work. There is a possibility that those affected can report damage that will only be visible later after the floods up to half a year. This flexibility helps to document and eliminate further damage. In addition, the municipality of Atzenbrugg has started various initiatives, including subsidies, donation accounts and benefit events to support those affected.

The networking and support of companies in the region is another important aspect of auxiliary measures. The WKNÖ (Chamber of Commerce Lower Austria) offers support affected companies, including financial aid and information on short -time work. The flood situation often leads to questions in the area of labor law, taxes as well as contract and tenancy law that are now important to clarify.

"In this extreme situation, the strong cohesion and the high connection in the region can be seen," remarked Christian Bauer, the chairman of the WKNÖ. For example, companies that did not suffer from the flood damage have agreed to help those affected at short notice. A central point of contact for all relevant support options is the WKO website on which help offers are clearly presented.

The "Help with Flood" hotline was set up for additional support. This can be reached from Monday to Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and on weekends from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Those affected can receive information about the offers of help from the state and the federal government on 02742/9005-12100.

The municipality of Atzenbrugg has also provided exemplary information on the subject of floods, which can be of great benefit to those affected in order to be able to understand the current developments and help offers.
