Future of the economy in Lower Austria: recognized action!

At an event entitled "Perspective for Breakfast", which took place in the WKNÖ headquarters in St. Pölten, the presidents of the Austria (WKÖ) Chamber of Commerce (WKÖ) and the Chamber of Commerce Lower Austria (WKNÖ), Harald Mahrer and Wolfgang Ecker, discussed the challenges that companies are currently and in the future. According to Mahrer, it is essential these days that "important set screws" have to be tackled in order to secure Austria's competitiveness as a business location.

"We are all business. Entrepreneurs as well as our employees," said Ecker, underlining the urgency of measures to combat employee lack. It should be emphasized that Austria now works 1.5 hours less a week than before pandemic. According to the two presidents, this shows that incentives have to be created for more work. Mahrer emphasized that older workers should be encouraged by flexible regulations to stay longer in working life, for example by receiving pensioners for their work beyond the regular pension age.

importance of the business location of Lower Austria

Lower Austria plays a central role in the Austrian economy and records economic output of over 71 billion euros. In addition, over 6,800 entrepreneurs started their own business last year in a diverse mix of industries. The economic importance of the federal state is illustrated not only by the large number of activities, but also by excellent educational institutions and a future -oriented look.

Ecker and Mahrer agreed that it is necessary for the future to create the appropriate framework conditions at the federal level in order to secure the attractiveness of Lower Austria as a business location beyond 2040. They particularly emphasized the growing importance of export for the Austrian economy.

At the end of the event, guests had the opportunity to discuss current economic issues in discussions with the President and to establish networks. This exchange of ideas and opinions is seen as an essential step towards creating a dynamic economic area, which can also master upcoming challenges.

The problem of the employee's passport remains a central topic and will shape the economic landscape sustainably. It is therefore of the highest importance for the presidency of the Chamber of Commerce to carry the right impulses into society. These considerations and the associated solutions are continuously developed and discussed.
