A shocking incident occurred in Zistersdorf, where the police discovered a male body on Saturday afternoon. This tragic event is related to the killing of a 65-year-old woman who was found on Friday in a vineyard with serious stab wounds. The alleged perpetrator, a 59-year-old Slovak citizen, had entrenched himself in an underground basement for hours after lit an explosive device during a first attempt to arrest. The autopsy of the dead was ordered by the public prosecutor's office in Korneuburg. The State Criminal Police Office in Lower Austria is entrusted with further investigations. During this time, a large part of the area remained closed around the suspect's house, and about ten houses were evacuated. The affected residents were temporarily accommodated in a local facility, and some were already able to return to take care of their pets.
The situation on site was an enormous challenge for the police. The state police director, Franz Popp, reported on an "extremely demanding and stressful commitment" that lasted over 24 hours and in which around 220 officials were involved, including members of the Cobra and specialists for explosives.
