Suspicious packages in Amstetten: the police cancel the all -clear
On Wednesday evening, six suspicious packages in Amstetten provided a larger police operation. The packages, which at first glance looked like ordinary mailings, were discovered in the Lower Austrian district town on the main square and led to immediate security measures.
The police under the direction of police spokeswoman Manuela Weinkirn did everything possible to clarify the situation. The main square was cordoned off and a ban on space was pronounced by the district administration. The adjacent houses also had to be evacuated, while security forces examined the packages with explosive detection dogs.
all -clear and results of the checks
around 7.45 p.m. the all -clear followed. The extensive checks of the packages were referred to as "negative", which means that there was no danger from them. The packages, which were provided with the inscription "For free withdrawal", were X -rayed and opened. Inside, the emergency services found bottles with water.
The police measures were made after an advertisement that received in the afternoon. The callers had pointed out the unusual packages that were in front of various objects in the main square. Despite the emerging worries about possible dangers, the situation remained calm. The evacuated residents were allowed to go back to their apartments in the evening.
At the same time, investigations are now underway for coercion against unknown perpetrators. The police will forward the events to the St. Pölten public prosecutor. These incidents again show the need for a quick reaction to potential sources of danger in public space.
