Tragic fate: St. Pölten animal shelter fights for the little ones
The St. Pölten animal shelter is currently facing an enormous challenge. The flea market planned for the World Animal Protection Day had to be canceled. The reason for this is the serious damage caused by the flood disaster and still have to be remedied.
Apart from the flood damage, the team in the shelter has taken on another stressful task. They took care of seven little kittens that had to be saved from a critical situation. The cat mother, who was known in the neighborhood, had hidden her puppies under a punch and left her back in a weakened condition. Animal shelter Victoria Bischof describes: "The kittens were heavily hypotherized and hungry to the shelter."intensive care and tragic end
To ensure that each individual kitten received the necessary care, the team was divided. "We had to feed them every hour," Bishop explains affected. Despite all efforts, they unfortunately had to accept the loss of all kittens after three days. "It was heartbreaking," she says, adding that the memory of the little creatures is not easy to digest.
Another immense incentive for the animal shelter manager is the castration of the cats. So the mother cat has now been found and neutered. Here Bishop appeals: "We ask the population to take castrations seriously, especially in animals that have already had several litters. This can prevent unwanted youngsters and unnecessary animal suffering." Your call not only comes to the World Animal Protection Day, but is a recurring appeal to avoid such tragedies in the future.
The team of the shelter gives everything to repair the facilities again after the flood damage. "A big thank you to everyone who supports us with donations and food in this difficult time," says chairman Thomas Kainz. He points out that the renovations have to be pushed further. Donations can be made via the building block campaign, sponsorships for animals or directly with the intended use of floods. The Iban for this is: AT20 2025 6000 0061 6193.
