After moving: Fine for forgotten digital vignettes!

A move can bring many challenges, but for a Lower Austrian it became a financial nightmare. Peter G., a 59-year-old newcomer to Krems, forgot to report the digital vignette to the new license plate after moving from Purkersdorf. Post from ASFINAG was not long in coming - a replacement toll of 120 euros followed. G. was angry and wanted to pay because he was able to prove that the vignette was legally acquired and the car was registered. But before the administrative court in St. Pölten, he was made clear: he has to pay! So the Krone .

The trouble of the person concerned is quite understandable. "This is rip -off," says G. Frustration about the lack of communication from ASFINAG, which could have pointed out that he could submit everything within a week. Meanwhile, ASFINAG emphasizes that they strictly comply with the toll regulations, which only distinguishes between owners of a valid vignette and without them. If you do not pay the toll, you will face administrative penalties between 300 and 3,000 euros. According to GO-MAUT , the replacement toll must be paid within the respective period to avoid an administrative criminal proceedings.

high income for ASFINAG

ASFINAG registers over 400,000 Vignettende offs in every year and thus generates income of around 48 million euros. This legitimizes the strict attitude towards toll violations: "We have no insight whether the customer has only forgot a right of livelihood," explains division manager Stefan Zangerle. Even if it has been shown in G.'s case that you only have to pay for a violation once, the displeasure of the lack of communication remains. So if you sit in the toll trap, you should pay close attention to the deadlines, because permanent ignoring can lead to further financial burden.
