Objects wanted: memories of moving years in Lower Austria!

From January 18, 2025, the House of History in the Museum Lower Austria begins a significant call for the collection of historical objects in order to document the formative period from 1989 to 2005. This initiative aims to include the population in memory of significant events, as Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner noted. "We want to encourage citizens to share their memorabilia with us and thus keep the memory awake," she said. Until April 2025, interested parties have the opportunity to submit their exhibits, to tell individual stories about significant events such as the fall of the Iron Curtain, the Yugoslavia Wars, the EU accession in Austria in 1995 or the flood disaster of the 2000s.

special collection actions

In addition to the submissions by email to history@museumnoe.at, four collecting samens are planned in the museum: on January 18, February 15, March 15 and April 12, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The objects should have personal connections to contemporary history, as it is about capturing everyday life and the experiences of people in Lower Austria. This collection is part of the extensive initiative "Remember the future in Lower Austria", which includes a number of events and exhibitions for the commemoration year 2025, as described in detail on the website www.erinnernfuerdiezukunft.at.

The House of History plans, among other things, a special exhibition in cooperation with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for War Consequences Research, which will show the experiences of children who had to grow up between 1938 and 1955. This approach aims to make contemporary developments and their effects on the life of people in Lower Austria, whereby the personal participation is particularly promoted, as Museumnoe.at reports. The population is invited to actively participate in this important project in order to keep the memories of these often stormy years alive.
