Train failures and replacement buses: Changes for rail travelers in October

On the popular railway line between Trier and Saarbrücken, passengers will have to prepare for significant changes in the coming weeks. Between the 5th and 20th October 2024, a number of train cancellations and replacement returns are carried out by bus. This measure is necessary to carry out track and course work that contributes to improving the infrastructure.

At this period of changes, lines RE 1 and RB 70 and 71 will be particularly affected. At the start of the work on October 5, the RB 70/71 and RE 1 will no longer be able to drive on schedule in some sections. The RB 70/71 between Saarlouis and Mettlach as well as the RE 1 between Saarlouis and Saarburg will be deleted from 2.30 p.m. In order to offer the travelers a possibility, Deutsche Bahn will use replacement buses, as announced in a current press release.

Details on replacement traffic

An interesting aspect of the changes is that the replacement buses from 10.30 p.m. will offer a continuous connection from Saarlouis to Trier Central Station. This should enable commuters to continue their journey despite the interruptions. The RE 4134, which runs at the Trier Central Station at 11:45 p.m., is also particularly important; Here a replacement bus from Saarburg to Saarbrücken is provided.

The Deutsche Bahn has also pointed out that additional failures between Mettlach and Saarlouis are planned in the night hours from 6, 14, 15, 16 and 20 October. In order to facilitate the planning of travelers, all changes have already been integrated into the travel information systems. As a result, travelers can inform themselves in good time and comprehensively about their alternatives.

These maintenance measures are of central importance to ensure the safety and efficiency of rail traffic in the long term. Deutsche Bahn recommends all passengers to find out about the current timetables before the trip, especially during the period mentioned to avoid unnecessary delays or misunderstandings. For comprehensive information, travelers can also consult the Deutsche Bahn website.
