A new shine for downtown Neunkirch! The outdated facade of the former "Wiener Wald" building has to give way, because from next week the Sparkasse Neunkirchen starts with the construction of its state-of-the-art headquarters on Lübbener Platz. By the end of 2026, 160 employees are to switch to a top-modern real estate. But that's not all! The concept also includes a restaurant and a neighboring commercial property that is rented to a federal company. A big rethink for the city center!

"We have commissioned a comprehensive study that showed us that a new building is much more cost -effective than a renovation," explains Jörg Welter, CEO of Sparkasse Neunkirchen. The thinking process not only brings new jobs, but also an inviting atmosphere for customers. With the modernization, the Lübbener Platz is also becoming more attractive - a place that has often been in the news for conflicts in the past. The city has already started to improve the climate through art installation and modern, smart lighting. This new lighting reacts to crowds and adapts dynamically - an investment of over 100,000 euros!

News from Neunkirchen: Kaufhof and Alte Sparkasse

But that's not all! The city also has big plans for the vacant Kaufhof building, which was bought in 2022. A usage concept is created here, which may include a new police inspection. "We are in constant contact with the police to ensure that the accessibility for vehicles is also available," said Mayor Jörg Aumann (SPD). And as if that weren't enough, there are already exciting ideas for the old Sparkasse building on the Hammergraben: Here, a mix of retail, office space and gastronomy is being worked on. The downtown Neunkircher will get a fresh and lively face - the start of construction is the first big wave of this exciting transformation!
